Many people out there look forward to Halloween all year long to experience the scare and the thrill of the haunted houses. Most aren’t really houses, but merely an area transformed to give the impression that some very scary stuff is going to take place there.

Haunted houses take place in many types of environments. Abandoned trains at train yards are spooky enough, so imagine adding a train full of horror to the mix. With a fog machine and a fake grave yard surrounding it, the thrill seekers will be lining up to get inside.

The outdoors offers some scary effects as well. Nature trails are a great site to host something scary because the darkness and thick trees allow plenty of places for those scary things to pop out from behind. Cornfield mazes are the most popular outdoor scare attraction. You must find the right trail out of the maze while escaping from the many elements out to get you.

Thrill seekers often just can’t get enough of this kind of entertainment. Others find it too disturbing and choose not to participate. Some thrill seekers find that they want to explore more than a made up scary display. They seek out old hotels and homes that are said to really be haunted. While some such places are said to exist throughout the word, many of us have never truly experienced a haunted house with unsettled spirits still residing there. The world of movies and theatre has long displayed haunted houses as places full of strange occurrences.

Steven King is the master of creating such haunted places in his movies. The Shining is about a caretaker and his family who deal with the phenomenon at a hotel in Colorado. They reside alone in the hotel during the treacherous winter months when no guests are there. For the child in the movie seeing twin girls who were murdered to the father having drinks with the devil, the movie holds you on the edge of your seat.

This wonderful creator was able to do it again with the making of Rose Red. This story is about a haunted mansion that is abandoned, but continues to add rooms on its own. A college profession and group of psychics decide to spend time in the mansion for a research project. The movie is full of bone chilling haunted house mystery and strange events.

Haunted houses continue to be a source of entertainment for people all over the world. For many, the better the scare, the greater the thrill!
